What is “Garden of the Gods”?

Located in Illinois and spread across four counties, Garden of The Gods gives visitors amazing views that overlook the majority of Shawnee National Forrest. The site was created after millions of years of erosion carving away at the sandstone and creating the breath-taking structures that make for a perfect panoramic view.

For the fearless, the sculptures are free to climb at the adventurer’s own risk. Rounded ledges and unrailed heights give visitors a heart-stopping experience. If the sandstone sculptures look familiar, you might recognize it from the change in your pocket. The Garden of the Gods is featured on the Shawnee Quarter of the US Mints National Forrest Collection. Minted in 2016, Camel Rock, the most prominent formation of the site has blessed the back of the quarter.

With trails, camping grounds and amazing views, Garden of the Gods is a must-see for any adventurer.
