The updated federal ID card known as "Real ID" will be REQUIRED for all air travel starting May 7th 2025. Though it may seem like short notice, the Real ID Act was passed by congress back in 2005. The Real ID card has a myriad of safety features making it much more difficult to produce fraudulent IDs. One such feature being the holographic star located in the top right of the card.
How do you get issued a Real ID? Similar to most government documents, applicants must supply documents that include legal full name, DOB, Social Security number, two proofs of primary residence and lawful status.
Travelers - be sure to update to Real ID to avoid any traveling hiccups.
